Day 13 August 29 Chicken to Dawson City

The only way to get to Dawson City is to join a Road Convoy at Chicken, which leaves at 08.00am sharp. This means very slow progress average speed of 15 Miles Per Hour. The Dept of transport has decided to use a supervised convoy in order to prevent people from driving too fast on a road, which has received huge amounts of rain. We decide that it is at least a 40 mph road, but we are stuck in a convoy doing 15mph. Eventually we arrive at a place called boundary where the convoy ends and we can travel the top of the world highway to Dawson City. We cross the Canadian border without any issues.

This is a typical log Hut in the Yukon area. This is at Boundary, just a few miles from the Canadian Border in Alaska.

When traveling to Dawson city from Southern Alaska (Tok, Chicken) the only access for vehicles is by
ferry over the Yukon River. The ferry moves surprisingly Quickly.

Dawson City is the Wild West town of the Yukon. Gold was discovered here in the late 1800's. Today
gold is still being discovered and some people are even becoming wealthy on their finds.

The Hotel we are staying in the Eldorado has kept the original Hotel design

Dawson City really knows how to put on a show. Entering Gerties dance hall was like stepping back
into a Wild west Saloon.

The Baudeville musical we watched was great fun and extremely well performed.
